Oxjam18 Induction

Over the weekend we welcomed this year’s group of inspiring Oxjam Festival Managers to Oxford for their Oxjam Induction. Over the course of two days we held talks, workshops and panel Q&A’s to introduce our wonderful volunteers – travelling from all over the UK – to their new role, and to the exciting journey that lies ahead!

Oxjam18 is set to be incredible, with 33 festival locations already confirmed across the UK, and more in the pipeline to announce very soon! Each festival will be a celebration of local, grassroots music, providing a platform for up and coming artists and supporting small independent venues. More than this though, Oxjam will raise thousands of pounds for Oxfam’s vital work in fighting poverty now and helping to beat it for good.

Without our volunteers, none of this would be possible, and that is what makes Oxjam quite so special. This year’s group of Festival Managers is made up of 8 returning managers and 25 first years, all dedicated to fighting poverty on a global scale with Oxfam, and organising incredible multi-venue festivals all over the country in October. With backgrounds in marketing, events management, production, fundraising and loads more, we’re super excited to see what they have in store for us.

After an exhausting day one of information overload (sorry team, there was so much to get through!) we welcomed some Oxjam legends to the stage to field questions – including Nigel Millson who has raised a whopping £70K for Oxfam with Oxjam Reading over the last five years, and Saba Kiani, who ran Oxjam Oxford in 2015 and now works as Regional Engagement Exec for Oxfam! Joining them were Debbieanne O’Donovan and Stephen Ferrell, returning Festival Managers for Clapham and Newcastle respectively, and Sam Dewey who ran Peckham last year and is now part of the team, helping coordinate events in London and The South East.
