Oxjam Sessions: Mr Jukes

Newcastle kicked things off early a week or so back when alt-country stars Danny and the Champions of the World dropped by the Oxfam shop to play an impromptu Oxjam Session to lucky local Oxjammers. Fast forward a week and on Friday we brought you the next big warm-up announcement with a certain Mr Jukes playing a similarly intimate show in Manchester.

So, over the weekend, it was the turn of our Manchester Emporium shop to host the second of our Oxjam Sessions with Jack Steadman – previously frontman with Bombay Bicycle Club and now a solo artist in his own right churning out soul, hip-hop and sample-infused dance music under the pseudonym Mr Jukes. Fresh from a sold out tour, and the release of his triumphant debut album God First (give it a listen if you haven’t already) featuring the likes of Lianne Las Havas, De La Soul and the late great Charles Bradley, it’s safe to say this went down pretty well.

Here’s a video of some highlights from the day.

You can also get tickets to Oxjam Manchester (taking place this very weekend in the Northern Quarter!) right here, or browse other Oxjam events nearer to you, over on the Oxjam Map.
