Oxjam Sessions: Danny and The Champions of The World
October may be officially Oxjam Festival month, but with gigs taking place throughout the Summer, and the first festival taking place in Manchester in the last weekend of September, we’re already getting hyped for Oxjam 2017. It’s going to be massive.
In fact, over the weekend, we kicked things off early with a surprise for the Geordies amongst you by hosting the latest of our Oxjam Sessions in the Oxfam shop on Percy Street in Newcastle. Folk rock veterans (they’ve been going a decade now, so I think that counts) Danny and The Champions of the World dropped by to play an exclusive set for us. Despite the gig nearly not happening (the band’s van broke down outside Newcastle!) they took to the stage and, as expected, totally bossed it.
The alt-country band performed tracks from their seventh studio album Brilliant Light released earlier this year, as well as favourites from their now extensive back-catalogue. Our Newcastle Festival Manager Stephen was there to oversee things (and plug the city’s Oxjam Festival happening next month in Ouseburn!) while we went trigger happy with the camera. Here are some of the best shots from the day.
